Task 1 Preparation: Intercultural awareness
You will encounter customs and traditions that are new to you. Your own cultural background will influence the way you form your opinion. It is important to understand your own culture and who you are.
You need to show respect, be open and curious and have fun in discovering new things. It is important to think without prejudice about different cultures and value cultural diversity.
Your evidence should include:
- An introduction to you and your culture.
- Your research into how your culture is perceived by others.
- Your understanding of how you might have developed particular cultural stereotypes.
- Your strengths & areas for development, in other words: how intercultural aware are you and what are your learning goals?
Share your evidence with your exchange partners.

You'll find some blogs of foreign people trying Dutch/Indian food or explaining stereotypes on youtube (click here for some of those).
Geert Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory is a framework for cross-cultural communication, developed by Geert Hofstede. It describes the effects of a society's culture on the values of its members, and how these values relate to behavior. On this site you can compare countries:

For Dutch students: If you find it difficult to understand, seach for his dimensions in Dutch, since Hofstede is a Dutch scientist.
Hans Kaldenbach wrote the book 'Doe maar gewoon 99 tips voor het omgaan met Nederlanders' (Act normal! 99 tips for dealing with the Dutch). A selection you can find here: http://www.hanskaldenbach.nl/PDF/Kaldenbach,%20DOE%20MAAR%20GEWOON,%20selectie,%20%20AL.pdf?20160531

Task 3 In India & The Netherlands: taking part
Keep a diary while you are abroad.
As evidence, upload your report, which is based on the diary you kept in Mumbai/Breukelen. Describe where you went, what you did, how it felt to be on your own in a foreign culture, cultural differences you experienced, what you would do differently next time, what you learned, what you would advice your fellow students who are going next year.
Cultural participation
Upload any form of documentation which shows your participation in an Indian/Dutch (religious?) event.
